Her sudden passing which shattered her rising image. This is what happens to many stars who pass away too early. Over the years, fans were encouraged to push themselves harder to make sure that Selena's successes would not fade away. The tragic death of Selena by a gunman triggered emotions in Latino communities similar the way people reacted following Elvis Presley's death and John Lennon's. Selena was a wildly popular singer among Latinos in North America. But her music touched both the young as well as the elderly. Selena, who was hot and flamboyant stage performer, who was often referred to as Latina Madonna was a model offstage. She was active in antidrug efforts.
