Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned an undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell became the the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy stories over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and an investigation into the Iran Contra affair. Mitchell traveled extensively together with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
